Resident Dear Derbyshire Alert Member, We are issuing this message to advise residents to be extra vigilant following recent reports of rogue traders operating in the area and targeting properties for unnecessary or poor‑quality roof repairs. These individuals often: Knock on doors offering to inspect your roof after claiming they have “noticed a problem”.Use high‑pressure tactics to persuade homeowners to agree to costly repairs.Begin work without permission or inflate prices once work has started.Provide little to no paperwork, making it impossible to trace them afterwards. How to protect yourself: Do not agree to work on your home from anyone who cold calls.Never allow anyone onto your property unless you are certain who they are.Always use trusted, verified traders — ideally through recommendations or approved schemes such as Buy With Confidence or TrustMark. If in doubt, keep them out. You are under no obligation to open the door or engage in conversation.Look out for vulnerable neighbours who may be more easily targeted. If you encounter suspicious individuals or think rogue traders are operating in your area, please report it immediately by calling 101, or 999 in an emergency if you feel threatened or believe a crime is in progress. Thank you for helping us keep our community safe. Kind regards,
